ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man is accused of shooting and killing a person who was sitting in his car at a gas station parking lot in Rochester last November.
Gemarion Parson, 19, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting at the corner of St. Paul and Norton streets. He’s also charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Rochester Police say the shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 18. Officers found the victim, 36-year-old Willie Mayhall, dead in the front driver’s seat and shot in the upper body. Police say he was alone in his car and the suspect fired multiple shots into the car before fleeing.
Police arrested Parson on Dec. 29, accusing him of illegal possession of a loaded gun. He was then arrested again on Jan. 15, accused of an armed carjacking, and has been in custody ever since. More recently, police presented evidence of the murder to a grand jury, and he was charged with the murder. The indictment was unsealed on Thursday.
After the shooting, family and friends honored Mayhall with a memorial and demanded justice. Family members said he had an outgoing and funny personality and adored his children. Mayhall was the youngest of six children.
“The shooter didn’t only kill Willie, they took a piece out of each of the family’s hearts,” said Karon Odum, Mayhall’s brother.
