ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A special prosecutor from Onondaga County has been appointed for the retrial of Keith Williams, the man previously convicted of stabbing a Rochester police officer.
Williams is getting a retrial after newfound evidence and a ruling by a state appellate court. According to documents brought up in appellate court, Williams was diagnosed with bipolar disorder a year and a half after he stabbed Officer Denny Wright, but it was ignored during the initial trial.

He was in court for motion arguments ahead of the retrial Wednesday. The next court date is set for December.
Officer Denny Wright lost his eyesight in the attack. In May, the Monroe County Legislature approved a $500,000 settlement.
