Foreigner is bringing another major piece of its original lineup back for its 50th anniversary celebration.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band announced on Wednesday, Sept. 16, that original lead singer Lou Gramm will reunite with Foreigner for a series of special performances in 2027. Founding keyboardist Al Greenwood is also returning for select shows, with his first appearance coming in just two days.
Gramm will join Foreigner aboard the Rock Legends Cruise, which departs from Miami on Feb. 21, 2027, before performing with the band during six shows at The Venetian in Las Vegas in March.
The reunion puts the unmistakable voice behind some of Foreigner’s biggest hits back onstage with the band during its milestone anniversary year.
Gramm joined founder Mick Jones in Foreigner’s original lineup in 1976 and sang on the band’s self-titled 1977 debut as well as Double Vision, Head Games, 4 and Agent Provocateur.
His voice powered an extraordinary string of hits, including “Feels Like the First Time,” “Cold as Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” “Double Vision,” “Urgent” and “Juke Box Hero.”
And, of course, Gramm sang Foreigner’s biggest hit “I Want to Know What Love Is,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1985.
The newly announced appearances aren’t Gramm’s first reunions with Foreigner. He has made select appearances with the band in recent years, and the group’s 2019 Double Vision: Then and Now release documented a reunion of original and then-current members. But the 2027 dates will give fans several more opportunities to see Foreigner’s original voice performing with the group during its 50th anniversary celebration.
Gramm is currently performing his own dates as well, including a show in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., on Sept. 16. And fans won’t have to wait until 2027 to see another original member return.
Greenwood will join Foreigner for five performances this fall, beginning Friday, Sept. 18, at the Macon City Auditorium in Macon, Ga. He’ll also appear Sept. 19 in Augusta, Ga., followed by three California shows on Oct. 23, 24 and 25.
Greenwood was the first musician Jones recruited while assembling Foreigner in 1976. He played on the band’s first three albums, Foreigner, Double Vision and Head Games, contributing keyboards during the era that produced songs including “Cold as Ice,” “Feels Like the First Time,” “Double Vision” and “Dirty White Boy.”
He’ll return again in spring 2027 when Foreigner brings its 50th anniversary celebration back to the area where it all started.
The previously announced New York-area run begins April 27 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, followed by shows in Montclair, N.J., Port Chester, N.Y., and Westbury, N.Y. The band was formed in New York in 1976.
“New York is where Foreigner began, so there could be no better place to celebrate 50 years of our music,” Jones said when the dates were announced.
The anniversary comes during another period of change for Foreigner. Longtime singer Kelly Hansen stepped away after 20 years as the band’s frontman, with Luis Carlos Maldonado taking over lead vocals. The current lineup also includes Jeff Pilson, Michael Bluestein, Bruce Watson, Chris Frazier and John Roth.
Meanwhile, Foreigner’s 50th anniversary festivities are already underway. The band is performing at The Venetian in Las Vegas on Sept. 16 before heading to Georgia for the first of Greenwood’s reunion appearances on Sept. 18.
Now, Foreigner’s anniversary is reaching all the way back to the beginning, with two of the musicians who helped create its original sound returning to the stage.
