ROCHESTER, N.Y. — $25 million in capital funding will be going to 65 volunteer fire departments and districts across the state, including some in the Finger Lakes region.

Eight volunteer fire departments in the Finger Lakes will be getting over $2 million in funding. Here is a list of departments getting funding and how much they will get:

Branchport Keuka Park Fire District, Yates County: $475,000 Farmington Volunteer Fire Association, Inc., Ontario County: $1,000,000 Kendall Fire Department Inc., Orleans County: $114,000 Village of Geneseo, Livingston County: $19,233 Village of Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, Ontario County: $296,000 Village of Red Creek Fire Department, Wayne County: $264,741 Village of Waterloo, Seneca County: $391,331 Wyoming County, Wyoming County: $45,387

According to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Office, this funding is meant to improve facilities, response capabilities, and emergency preparedness. Her office also says the funding helps offset pressures of rising equipment and construction costs.

Volunteer firefighter shortages
