Paul Finebaum went on ESPN’s Get Up on Tuesday morning and boldly said that all the pressure is on Lane Kiffin in Saturday night’s highly anticipated SEC showdown between No. 7 LSU and No. 8 Ole Miss.
It is the SEC opener for both 2-0 teams, and it will get the primetime royal treatment on ABC with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff. It will feature Kiffin returning to Oxford, where he coached the Rebels from 2020 right up until late last season when he bolted for the head coaching job at LSU. Kiffin created a whole bunch of controversy with that in-season move, and his return to Ole Miss for the Week 3 battle is even reportedly creating beefed-up security issues.
With this backdrop and despite Kiffin claiming on Monday during his session with reporters that the pressure on Saturday night was really on Ole Miss, Finebaum laid the hammer down on Tuesday and put the pressure all on Kiffin.
“That is not the case whatsoever,” said Finebaum, regarding Kiffin saying on Monday that the pressure was all on Ole Miss. “The pressure is all on him. He is the one who left them behind. They are the jilted lover. He ran off to whatever island he decided to build a mansion on, which happened to be in Louisiana. That is just Lane Kiffin being Lane Kiffin.”
Finebaum went on to say to ESPN host Mike Greenberg during the segment that this is a game that Kiffin must win on Saturday night. So, not only does Finebaum believe all the pressure is on Kiffin, but he also sees the game as an absolute must-win for the Ole Miss-turned-LSU head coach.
