Each week, throughout the college football season, alumni, fans, media and the teams themselves look to the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll to see who is rising and moving within the national rankings. The new poll follows Week 2 games.
Beat an FBS team and not move up in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll?
Such is life in the national media rankings due to the way top teams are performing early in the season.
In a unique scenario, the two FCS teams that defeated FBS competition in Week 2 were last season’s national finalists.
Of course, there’s no room for reigning national champion Montana State to move up because it’s top-ranked and has received every first-place vote from the preseason on. The Bobcats (3-0) dominated Nevada for a 20-7 victory.
Illinois State scored in the final two minutes to power past Northern Illinois 28-24, but the Redbirds (3-0) remain at No. 5 behind South Dakota State, Montana and a Tarleton State squad that a week earlier posted the first of five FCS-over-FBS wins this season.
Any loss on the record of a top-20 team in the poll is against an FBS opponent. The first ranked team with an FCS loss is No. 21 William & Mary, and that was against No. 7 Lehigh in a Patriot League game.
