FAIRPORT N.Y. – The Rochester Jr. Amerks have hired a new general manager. Dominic Pittis will return to the area to lead the largest youth hockey organization in the state of New York.
Pittis has a very decorated career as both a player and a coach. He played 204 games for the Rochester Amerks and tallied 246 points in that timeframe.
“I mean I was I was pretty passionate about the game. Took it pretty seriously. I, you know, really competitive. And I don’t think that changed much as a coach,” Pittis said.
He was also a 2020 inductee into the Amerks’ Hall of Fame and played 86 games in the NHL.
Pittis will bring his expertise to an organization with about 1,100 youth hockey players ranging from the rec level, up to AA and Tier One. His main goal is to have kids that start with the program, finish there too.
“I think the goal is always to try, to have kids that start here, finish here and then be able to go on and do what they want to be able to do,” Pittis said.
He’s also coached at the NHL level with the Calgary Flames, and at the AHL level as an assistant coach for the Stokholm Heat. Most recently, he lived in California where he was the director of hockey for Saint Mary’s high school. So far, the people of Rochester have been extremely welcoming upon his return.
“How welcoming they are even since we’ve been back. It’s a noticeable difference. And I think that you know, everybody has a passion for it, and that that means something,” Pittis said.
