PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WHEC) – Syracuse volleyball took on Canisius at the midway point between the two schools, at St. John Fisher in Rochester.
The Orange defeated the Golden Griffins 3-0, moving to 4-3 on the season. But more importantly, it was an opportunity for ‘Cuse to bring their talents to an important market, in the 585.
“For us to be our best, it’s gonna take all of New York,” said Director of Athletics, Bryan Blair.
In the past few years, Syracuse Athletics have made a few pitstops for certain events in the Rochester area. But with Blair taking over, there is a bigger push to incorporate all of the Upstate New York cities, to try and bring a bigger fanbase over to SU.
“I’ve been here all of four months, but it didn’t take long to understand what Rochester means to Syracuse,” said Blair.
And the fans took notice of Syracuse’s effort to include its’ neighbor to the West.
“I think it’s great to have D1 school here, because we don’t get to see it very often,” said fan Cori Gardner.
With the exception of RIT hockey, Rochester is one of the biggest cities in the country without a D1 program.
