Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

New York high school state bronze medalist Carina Dai has announced her verbal commitment* to stay in-state and swim at Columbia University beginning in the fall of 2027.

I’m super excited and proud to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Columbia University! The biggest thank you to my teammates, coaches, friends, family, and all those who have shown unrelenting support throughout this process! Of course, I am beyond grateful for Coach Demerae and Coach Diana who have made this absolutely bonkers dream come true! ROAR!!!

A rising senior at Port Washington-Roslyn Co-Op in Port Washington, Dai has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming team since her sophomore year. She also trains year-round with Long Island Aquatic Club, where she primarily specializes in butterfly, IM, and middle-distance freestyle. She’s coming off a 2025-26 season that saw her drop nearly a second and a half in the 100 free, over a second in the 100 fly and 200 free, and a few tenths in the 200 fly.

On the high school scene, Dai won bronze in the 100 fly (55.06) at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) State Championships, her second-straight year making the ‘A’ final after touching sixth as a sophomore. She also helped Port Washington-Roslyn Co-Op take fifth in the 400 free relay (51.77 anchor) and 10th in the 200 free relay (24.35 leadoff).

Her top club meets of the season were the TYR Senior Mets Winter meet in February, where she clocked her current PBs of 51.75 and 1:51.22 in the 200 free, and the NCSA Spring Championships in March, where she clocked her PB of 2:02.71 in the 200 fly in addition to follow-up swims of 51.96, 1:52.67, and 55.25 in the 100 free, 200 free, and 100 fly.

100 Butterfly: 54.99 200 Butterfly: 2:02.71 100 Freestyle: 51.75 200 Freestyle: 1:51.22

A Division I Mid-Major program, Columbia competes in the Ivy League, with the women’s team placing seventh out of eight teams at the 2026 conference meet. Dai’s current career bests in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 free would have qualified for the ‘C’ finals, setting her up to be an immediate contributor with still two full seasons of training ahead before her first conference meet.

Dai joins Tamara Kret, Sasha Volkova, Hannah Song, Mia Mracna, and Isabella Zhang in Columbia’s class of 2031 so far.

Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
