Ms. Alexis Woodard of the Defeated Creek Community departed her life unexpectedly at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday morning September 9, 2026 at the age of 27. May her family and friends reflect on all of the good, fun, and memorable things, especially her love for animals, that Alexis left us to cherish, the most of which was her love for family.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home will be conducted on Sunday afternoon September 13th with Bro. Jackie Dillehay officiating. Burial will follow in the Gazebo section at the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends may visit with the Woodard Family at Sanderson in Carthage on Saturday September 12th from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Sunday from 10 a.m. until the 3 p.m. services.
She was born Alexis Paige Woodard at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin on January 19, 1999 and is the only child of Defeated Creek Community native Michael Anthony Woodard and Gladdice Community native, the former Tracy Lynne Hackett.
Alexis was a 2017 graduate of Smith Co. High School. She furthered her education thru Volunteer State Community College online, where she received her paralegal degree.
She has been employed with Advanced Auto Parts on First Avenue in Carthage since April of 2024 as a counter parts pro.
She was well known for her vibrant and honest personality. She was so full of life and looked forward to having a good time. She had an infectious smile that would light up any room.
Surviving in addition to her parents, Anthony and Tracy of the Defeated Creek Community are her maternal grandparents, Dennis and Judy Hudson Hackett of the Gladdice Community, paternal grandparents, Terry and Christine Hunt Woodard of the Defeated Creek Community. Also surviving are her bonus uncles and aunt, Jason Murphy and his daughter Taylor and Justin and Leanne Murphy and their children, Gavin and Bella, all of the Gainesboro area. Uncle and aunts, Keven and Stacey Woodard Barnhill and their children, Josh, Creed, and Journi, all of the Defeated Creek Community, and aunt, Jennifer Woodard and friend, Tracy Rogers of Carthage, special friend, Ken Dillehay and Ken’s fur baby, Daisy; several aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
The family requests that you continue to remember them in your prayers in the days/weeks/months ahead. Our God is good, true and faithful. While we don’t understand what’s been placed before us, we have to trust His timing and reasoning.
The Woodard family requests memorials to either the Greg Webb Scholarship Fund or the Smith County Human Society.
