RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s trade balance recorded a surplus of SR61.52 billion in the second quarter of 2026, marking an annual growth rate of 62 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. According to the latest data released by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), the Kingdom’s total merchandise exports rose by 4 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period in 2025, reaching approximately SR285.98 billion, while the value of merchandise imports declined by 5 percent to SR224.46 billion. During the first quarter of 2026, the Kingdom’s trade balance recorded a surplus of SR90.5 billion, achieving an annual growth rate of 43.7 percent, an increase of more than SR27 billion compared to the same period in 2025, when the surplus stood at approximately SR63 billion, according to the International Trade Bulletin, released by GASTAT in March.The data also showed that the trade surplus soared by 60 percent quarter-on-quarter, rising by more than SR33.9 billion compared to the fourth quarter of 2025, which recorded a surplus of approximately SR56.5 billion. On a monthly basis, the trade surplus continued to expand in March 2026, registering a 200.9 percent increase and rising by more than SR38 billion compared to February of the same year, when the surplus stood at approximately SR 19.1 billion.The data revealed that the Kingdom’s total international trade volume exceeded SR535 billion during the first quarter of this year, recording an annual growth rate of 4.5 percent and an increase of approximately SR22.9 billion compared to the same period last year, when it stood at SR512.3 billion. The Kingdom’s total merchandise exports during the first quarter reached approximately SR312.8 billion, compared to merchandise imports of approximately SR222.3 billion, while national exports, comprising petroleum and non-petroleum exports, amounted to SR274.5 billion. The data also indicated that the value of re-exports exceeded SR38 billion during the first quarter of this year, recording an annual growth rate of 32.9 percent and an increase of more than SR9 billion compared to the same period last year, when they amounted to approximately SR28.8 billion. At the level of trading partners, Asian countries topped the list of importers from the Kingdom, with a value exceeding SR 229.2 billion, followed by European countries with more than SR 47 billion, African countries with SR22.5 billion, and the Americas with approximately SR 12.6 billion.China maintained its position as the leading importer of Saudi goods during the first quarter of this year, with a value of SR 44.8 billion. These results reflect the continued strength of the Kingdom’s foreign trade performance, supported by the growth of national exports and re-exports, alongside increasing commercial activity and expanding trade relations with countries around the world.
