The Tennessee Volunteers felt good about their chances of defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday. True freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon didn’t play his strongest game, but he didn’t need to, thanks to his defense and ground game.
Dejuan Lane had a 41-yard pick-six, DeSean Bishop ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns, and Daune Morris added a late 47-yard touchdown run to give Tennessee a 45-24 victory over Georgia Tech. Lane’s interception put Tennessee ahead 17-10 in the second quarter, while Morris’ long sprint provided the final points of the contest.

— Tennessee Football (@Vol_Football) September 13, 2026Tennessee’s defense created havoc all night. The Vols tallied four sacks, seven tackles for loss and seven pass defenses against the Yellow Jackets. Arion Carter and Amare Campbell tied for the team lead in tackles (8), and Mariyon Dye paced the unit with two sacks and two tackles for loss.
Offensively, Josh Heupel‘s team racked up 299 rushing yards. Their 6.6 yards per carry average kept Brandon, who completed less than 50% of his passes (10/21) from having to shoulder the load in his first road start.
Tennessee (2-0) hosts Kennesaw State in Week 3 before welcoming the Texas Longhorns to Knoxville for a major SEC clash. Georgia Tech (0-2) will try to get its first win vs. Mercer next weekend.
