ROCHESTER, N.Y. – As a small disturbance pushes southwest to northeast across Pennsylvania and through New York state Saturday evening, mugginess will increase and a few showers will pass through the evening hours. Heavier showers are possible in the western Southern Tier and Finger Lakes, while showers stay a little more widely scattered north of I-90. That being said, the greater Rochester area can expect a few isolated showers through the rest of Saturday evening and overnight. The Finger Lakes may see some downpours and some thunder overnight. Temperatures will stay very mild overnight as cloud cover and showers linger. Saturday night’s low will be near 67 degrees. Dew points staying in the mid-60s will keep a muggy feel around for the overnight hours.
Though a cold front will be approaching the eastern Great Lakes through Sunday, model data consistently has much of the area dry. However, there is a caveat. Due to the close proximity of the cold front, some low-level instability, and wind shear, a few thunderstorms may develop along the lake breeze convergence zone if the air can get enough lift (Genesee County, southern Monroe County, northern Ontario, and southern Wayne County). Therefore, though much of the day will be dry and conducive to outdoor activities, we will continue to keep you up-to-date through the day on the isolated thunderstorm potential. I would just suggest to keep an eye on your app throughout the day, especially starting mid-afternoon. I would not go out of your way to limit outdoor activities. Highs on Sunday will near 80 degrees with the air staying fairly humid. Winds mainly out of the west/southwest between 10 to 20 mph.
Behind the passing cold front, fresher fall-like air will move back into the Northeast. Sunday night’s temperatures are forecasted to cool down to 57 degrees. Monday’s highs will likely stay in the upper-60s with some morning lake clouds and showers possible.
