Big Brother’s house is open once more! Every week, Parade’s Mike Bloom will be bringing you interviews with this season’s houseguests as they get evicted from the game.When Angela Murray walked through the front door of Big Brother 28, the houseguests were stunned. Primarily, she was the harbinger of the season’s big twist, that she and two other reality TV “icons” would be playing the game. But the only two-time houseguest this season was also one of the most chaotic in the show’s history, with Taylor Brown calling her the literal embodiment of “expect the unexpected.” And, in her second season, she continued to surprise, as she and the other icons spent the majority of the game from the power position, a far cry from her run on Season 26. Unfortunately, while Angela felt she had a locked-in spot in the endgame, the “Egg-tective” had no clue that Barrett Pfeiffer was going to scramble things up. The Jumbotron engineer put the icons on-screen, turning on their alliance in the process. And, while Angela’s close relationship with power player Dee Valladares helped her get through the game, it ultimately came to hurt her, as the Survivor winner was able to convince the majority to evict Angela a second time.For what it’s worth, Angela walked into her repeat stay in the house cognizant that she couldn’t completely change her game from the first time around. Her time on The Amazing Race, perhaps, had given her a more global perspective on how to approach a return. Instead, she hoped to find secure allies, pull back from the hardcore gaming, and, as she puts it, “be a little less cuckoo.” And we saw a representation of the mixed results with that strategy as soon as Week 2. With a guaranteed icon as the first HoH, Angela locked in with Dee and Rick Devens, and they parlayed that power to expand into multiple overlapping alliances. But when she was told that Jason De Puy had faked crying to her, then gloated about it, she began to crack with the fragility of an egg. After convincing Devens to backdoor Rome Seymour, she proceeded to hijack the nomination ceremony, putting her plan into action and starting the first of many fights this season. By the end of the verbal spar, she had only one sentiment for the RuPaul’s Drag Race all-star: Go to shell.

Indeed, this seemed to be the duality that existed for the majority of Angela’s 66 days in the house this season. From a strategic perspective, she had gone from a serf to the ruling class, as she and the icons were the biggest movers and shakers in the house. Even when they were put in the line of fire, Angela pulled off an impressive Block Buster win against two of the best physical players in the house, guaranteeing she wouldn’t face an eviction vote. This didn’t necessarily mean, however, that she would stay quiet. Big Brother 28 was dotted with the occasional paranoid spiral or tense back-and-forth. We saw a key example after Angela and the icons flipped the eviction vote to leave Haley Thogmartin in the dark. Feeling overwhelmed by guilt, she admitted her culpability mere hours later. But, when Haley accused her of throwing Dee under the bus, her remorse turned into rage. She stood up, passionately tearing into Haley, with a ferocity we had not seen since she infamously descended the stairs, slow-clapping, back in her original season.Despite her various disagreements, when Barrett won HoH at the Final Eight, Angela felt the icons would be insulated for the week, considering how much they, in her opinion, had insulated him. But, after spending weeks trying to depower the icons, Barrett’s dream was no longer deferred. Angela was stunned to find her, Dee, and Devens all on the block, though it didn’t stop her from going back and forth with Yash Patel at the nomination ceremony about the latter lying about the circumstances of the “BB Bribe.” When the Veto wasn’t used, while she was crushed one of her closest allies would go, she felt safe, spending the rest of the week sitting back and commenting on supposed poolside footsie. Dee, on the other hand, went to work. Not wanting to go out without a fight, she pitched herself to Yash and Taylor, saying she could be used as both a shield and a weapon against her former allies. And so, in a plot twist befitting a low-budget movie, Angela was taken out over her number one ally, in a move messier than her house under her husband’s care.On her way to the jury house, Angela talks with Parade about how why she feels Barrett’s move is a $750,000 mistake, why she felt she had a good chance at the end against Dee, and the reason behind her numerous blow-ups in the house.

You spoke to Barrett this week about wanting to go deep with the Crossovers, even comparing them to the “Cookout” alliance. Talk me through your reaction to him putting the three icons on the block. How do you look at the move now that you’ve been evicted?Barrett putting the three icons on the block, I’m not feeling good about it. Initially, when he told me he was going to do it, when I confronted him. I just felt like, what are you doing? There is so much more game left to play. You’re so well insulated, you come after us, and you are literally opening the door to hell. What are you thinking? Do you not know who you’re playing with here?
What do I think about it now that it’s been said and done, and I’m out of the house and everything, and Dee and Devens are still there? What his game looks like? It’s not looking so good for him. I think that he’s going to regret this, and it may be a $750,000 mistake here. I think I’ll see him next in jury.You worked closely with both Dee and Devens throughout the game, and you even told Julie you wanted to go to the end together. Talk to me about your relationships with each of your fellow icons, and what made you want to stick with them.Yes, it’s true. Call me naive. Call me vulnerable. Call me whatever you like — maybe even a moron, like Zingbot said — wanting to go to the end with the icons. My relationship with them was probably one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me. Because I mean, I’m a huge Survivor fan. I know their games. They’re both very good strategists and and good gamers. I mean, they just are. Being aligned with them was a huge thing in my game, and it definitely got me to where I got in the game. Going to the end with them would have been so phenomenal, and I don’t doubt that they’ll do that together. I won’t be a part of that, unfortunately. But yes, I really did think that the whole perception in the house was they wanted rid of the Survivors because they’re playing a “Survivor-ish” type game and not Big Brother. I think they coincide. It’s fine. And also I thought sitting next to Dee, she’s already won a million. There’s a very good chance that I could win sitting next to her. Plus, there wasn’t very much that she did that I wasn’t also a part of, or didn’t come up with some ideas on my own and share them with her. I feel like I was really at the forefront of most things, and I was already accumulating quite a resumeThroughout the game, you suspected Drew was disloyal to your alliance and plotting against you and the other icons. What made you so suspicious of the game he was playing, and did that change at all as the season went along?Okay, it’s no secret that I feel like Drew was completely being schemy and slimy all season, and yes, there was so much distrust. It was juicy. It was wonderful. I loved it. I loved that element, that layer of Big Brother. Somebody you’re supposed to be aligned with, but yet you let them have access to go and scheme and create other relationships in the house. I look back now, and if we had gotten him out when I initially wanted to, when our group, the icons, wanted to, we may not have had the fun and the excitement and all the things that happened later. And I think there was some point, and it’s escaping my mind now that he kind of saved us in a way at some point. And I was like, “Damn, I’m so glad that he was here for this, because otherwise it could have gone differently.” I love Drew. I think he’s amazing. I think he’s a fun, exciting, exciting player to watch. I was at the forefront of watching him play, and that’s kind of cool to get to witness that in person and have it happen to you.You didn’t shy away from confrontation, getting into arguments with multiple houseguests, including Jason, Haley, Taylor, and Yash. Were you weaponizing your emotions in doing that? And what made you decide to confront people so publicly? Alright! I did have a lot of confrontations in the house. Did I want to do that this time around with [my] redemption season? No, I didn’t. But I also give myself grace and allow me myself to experience Big Brother at its finest. And when I say that, I mean I allow myself to play with reckless abandonment and just feel the feels, feel the emotions that come along with things that are happening. I just get word vomit. I don’t seem to care in those moments. It is Big Brother, and I want my point to come across, and I want them to feel it how I’m feeling it. And I don’t mind confrontation when you are so in your feels, and you want to let them feel it, and the other people know. I just feel like why not? You can’t really do that in the real world, but in there, the walls are just closing in on you. The stakes are high. The pressure is intense, and you almost well. I’ll speak for me. I just sometimes just blow up, and I’m shocked at myself that I do it sometimes. But the cool thing is, even though I did have blow ups, I feel like they were valid, and I made up with those people almost immediately.Finally, give your rapid-fire thoughts on each of the remaining houseguests.
