1997 No.1 Pop Rock Hit, Recorded by 3 Brothers from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Reimagined 30 Years Later  ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

“MMBop” is getting a new life, three decades after it hit airwaves and became one of the defining songs of the ’90s.

Pop rock band Hanson, consisting of three brothers from Tulsa, Oklahoma, just re-recorded the iconic ’90s smash hit, nearly 30 years later.

Taylor Hanson, who was just 12 years old when the song was recorded in 1995, now 43, stepped back into the studio to reimagine the career-defining single for a new brand partnership—officially turning “MMMBop” into “MMMBites.”

According to the press release shared with Parade, “With the original song’s 30th anniversary approaching, Taylor teamed up with King’s Hawaiian for the freshly baked rendition in celebration of the brand’s NEW Soft Swirl Cinnamon Bites – giving the longtime feel-good anthem a playful new life while celebrating a snack designed to make everyday moments a little better.”

As part of the collaboration, Hanson stars in a series of humorous spots (like the one below) showing “how King’s Hawaiian Bites make life’s less-than-perfect moments a little better – from Monday mornings to middle seats – naturally culminating in an “MMMBites” singalong.”

The new Soft Swirl Cinnamon Bites will make their debut starting Sept. 9 at major grocery retailers nationwide and will surely have you saying MMM…bop!

“MMMBop has been stuck in people’s heads as a feel-good bop for decades, and while we’ve had opportunities to reinvent it over the years, none ever felt quite right until now,” Taylor said, via press release. “We thought this was the right opportunity to give it a fresh twist with MMMBites as a fun way to celebrate a snack that’s all about bringing a little more joy to everyday life,” he continued, adding, “Hopefully people will find themselves singing – and snacking – along.”

Meanwhile, the song, the lead single from their debut album Middle of Nowhere, turns 30 on April 15, 2027.

In addition to Taylor, the signature tune included his brothers, Isaac and Zac Hanson, turning them into global pop-rock sensations almost overnight.

The major-label album, which was released a month after the single on May 6, 1997, quickly shot to No. 1 in several countries like the UK, Australia and Germany, though it peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, blocked from reaching the top spot by pop superstars, the Spice Girls.

According to U Discover Music, “MMMBop” sold 1.5 million copies in the US and over 750,000 in the UK. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts in 21 days, from its debut at the beginning of May 1997 to its peak position on May 24th.

“MMMBop” was a catchy earworm with an infectious chorus that became one of the defining pop hits of the late 1990s, despite getting rejected by every record company before Mercury turned it into a smash hit..

Issac, now 45, previously told The Guardian that they listened to a lot of rock and roll growing up, along with a “lot of doo-wop,” which influenced the chorus.

“We recorded it in a one-car garage, put it on an independent album and sold several thousand copies at local gigs,” he said.

Now, nearly three decades later, whenever the tune plays anywhere—including a King’s Hawaiian commercial—we can’t help but be forced to sing along.

As for Taylor, 2026 is his year, as the MMMBites release comes on the heels that he’s been cast as a contestant on the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars. He will join the popular ABC competition show’s 35th season, partnered with professional dancer Britt Stewart.
