Carpenter marked the win on social media the following day, thanking the cast and crew behind the scenes. She credited the people who made it happen, writing that “a whole lot of love and happiness and hard work and diva fights” went into the project.
The special premiered February 4 to a rare 98 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and drew more than 7.5 million viewers across Disney+ and ABC, numbers strong enough that producers have floated it as a possible test run for a full series revival. No such revival has been greenlit yet.
The Muppet Show has spent years as primarily a source of nostalgia, but this Emmy win suggests that there may be an opportunity for more to come. Pairing a 50-year-old cast of puppets with one of pop music’s biggest current stars proves that while it may not be easy being green, it’s still easy for Kermit to bring in star power.
