Tara Erer, Head of UK & Northern Europe Originals at Amazon MGM Studios, and Fozia Khan, Head of Unscripted, UK Originals, Amazon MGM Studios, sat down with Radio Times during Edinburgh TV Festival 2026 to discuss the offering for Prime Video, in particular its offering of British original content.
Erer commented: "Everything that's happening around us represents us, right? We all exist together, but I think there is something very exciting about the UK. There's a lot of investment. It feels sometimes, when you're, I think, outside, it feels like it may be shrinking, but it really isn't. We're investing a lot more, as I understand all the other streamers are.
"Our audience is hungry. We just need to make the best things for them. And I think now you just can't make something good; it has to be great."
So, in this very crowded market, what do they think makes Prime Video stand out in the UK against other streamers and broadcasters?
"You know, we have one of the biggest shows in the UK with Clarkson’s Farm.
"What he's done with his own health problems, how much he's sharing all that. Again, the trials and tribulations are farming. He's done that too."
"Last One Laughing is exceptional," appraised Erer. "The level of talent you have on that show is… we can see this going on for years because it's such a rich, rich, rich group of people."
"We're very global, but we make local for local. We make decisions on what works for the UK audience. Travel's great, but when we're making our decisions, we're about the UK."
Specifically, speaking further about the streamer’s work with Clarkson, Erer revealed a desire to work further with the presenter and producer on other projects.
Erer's colleague Khan noted the addition of the spin-off series on Clarkson’s Farm favourite Kaleb, while Erer noted Clarkson’s support of The Grand Tour and the new trio of hosts, alongside producer Andy Wilman.
Elaborating further on The Grand Tour’s new era with its three new hosts, which began today, Erer added: "That was a huge responsibility in many ways, right? It’s one of our biggest shows. You have incredible talent in Jeremy, James, and Richard, who've built this world for more than a decade. How do you fill those shoes?
“We did lots of chemistry tests, and they were just perfect. They got it, they loved it, and they brought a lot into it, which is what the originals had done."
"Obviously, the drought is killing the harvest, so you're sort of again looking into how that affects a very real crisis," noted Erer. "Yeah, real crisis all around, and the stories never end on the farm."
"I mean, I think we always talk about trends, and I don't think we should be following trends," argued Erer. "I think we should be making them in the sense of, like, we need to figure out what people will want to watch in two years with the way we commission.
Khan added: "Rather than trends, I think we hit on a tone with The Grand Tour that we follow through in Kaleb, LOL, which is British humour".
Elaborating further on their factual offering, Khan spoke about the upcoming biographical documentary series based on Gary Lineker, who remains ever prolific since his departure from the BBC.
"But again, he's at that point in his life, which you can see from the panel where he's like, no limit, probably whatever you want.
It's not just Gary Lineker, too, for the streamer has its upcoming Lily Allen documentary series on the way, hot on the heels of her hit album West End Girl.
"Lily's quite open, but you won't have seen her in this way at this pivotal point in her life. Again, you'll be hearing from people that haven't spoken about her before."
"So I'm very excited about that because again, you know, the young audience is a real priority for us, and he's like such a star," deemed Khan. "But, again, it's like A Beautiful Obsession; it's not just about the sport. It's about the human behind it and their lives. This 26-year-old guy, top of his game, navigating his life, and it's that I think that's going to bring a broad audience."
"They're hugely popular, but we're going to be seeing them in a way they haven't been seen before," claims Khan. "So right inside their family at this pivotal point where Abby's turning 40, their relationship is changing, they're moving house, the eldest is leaving home. Again, it's like very relatable stuff, but we're getting right in there."
Erer said: "Yeah, I mean, in our processes, we use it a lot to create efficiencies."
However, Erer concluded: “But everything is human-led, so to us, it's a support system, not something to replace what we all do."
