GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) – Gates Chili football is coming off its best season in several years, earning the 4-seed in their Section V playoffs in the fall of 2025. This season, they hope to surpass that.
“We’re hungry. I feel like each year we’ve gotten more hungry and more hungry,” said senior Ty Emanuele.
One of the reasons Gates Chili football could take another jump? They’ve got a head coach who played wide receiver at Syracuse and is using that experience to really coach up the student athletes.

That mixture of coaching – both knowing what to teach and how to teach it at this level – is helping the program immensely.
“They’re not all Division I athletes, which is okay,” said Fontenette.
