With her family at her bedside, Mrs. Rhonda Hackett of South Carthage departed her earthly journey to begin her walk with God at the family’s Tulip Lane home in South Carthage at 12:30 a.m. She was pronounced deceased at 2:31 a.m. on August 31, 2026 by Amedisys Hospice of Murfreesboro.

Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon September 2nd. With Eld. Barney Allison officiating. Burial will be in the Hackett family lot in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

The Hackett family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage on Tuesday September 1st from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the 3 p.m. services.

Rhonda was born Rhonda Denise Lowery on April 12, 1957 in Moulton in Lawrence County, Alabama and was one of three children of the late Ratliff Lowery and Virginia Long Guyse.

At the South Carthage home of then Smith County Clerk Joe Scruggs on November 1, 1986, Rhonda was united in marriage to South Carthage native, Robert Gary Hackett.

She attended high school in Danville, Alabama.

Mrs. Hackett was saved under the teaching of Bro. Mike Turnipseed while working at his Sure Fit Company in The Rock City Community. The plans were for Bro. Turnipseed to preside at her funeral service and he preceded her in death last week on August 25th.

She was also a familiar face in the community having worked at many convenience stores and the Smith Utility District.

Her most prized possessions were her grandchildren, each of whom brought great joy and meaning to her life.

She also was a convenience store clerk having worked for Kenneth Bennett at his Rome Community Market.

Surviving in addition to her husband Gary of nearly forty-years is her son, Thomas Greenhaw and wife Tracey of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; two step-sons, Brian Hackett and wife Melissa of Lebanon, Phillip Hackett and wife Stacey also of Lebanon; sister, Kim Mardis and husband Tim of Harvest, Alabama; brother, Kenny Lowery of Decatur, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Megan Ballard and husband James of Cookeville, Trey Greenhaw of the New Middleton Community, Brannan and Conner Hackett of Lebanon, Kendra, Presley, and Payton Hackett all of Lebanon; special aunt, Barbara Blankenship of Cleveland, Tennessee.

Pallbearers: Chis Dickerson, Elliot Evans, Tony Kees, Shannon Woodard, Brandon Rigsby, & Michael Key.
