2026 WESTERN AUSTRALIA AGE & OPEN SC CHAMPIONSHIPS
August 28th – August 30th Perth HPC SCM (25m) Meet CentralThe 2026 Western Australia Age & Open Short Course Championships concluded over the weekend at the Perth HPC, with multiple swimmers making the highlight reel over the course of the three-day competition.
Among them was Highlanders’ Iona Anderson, with the Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championships athlete making her presence known in the women’s 100m IM.
Anderson stopped the clock at a time of 1:00.66 to take the event ahead of teammate Alyssa Burgess (1:01.08) and Hale Aquatics’ Teagan Flowerdew (1:05.18).
For 20-year-old Olympic medalist Anderson, her outing was just over half a second outside her entry time to kick off her campaign.
The men’s edition of the 100m IM saw Hale Aquatics’ Sam Carmignani get it done for gold, hitting 56.46 for a new personal best by over a second.
Matthew Loffler settled for silver in 56.58, followed by Thomas Prowton, who touched in 56.91, good enough for bronze.
The men’s 4x100m freestyle relay event saw the Highlanders lineup of Prowton, Joshua Yong, Daniel Boshart and Ashton Brinkworth power its way to gold in a big-time performance of 3:32.66.
The squad’s outing overtook the former WA record of 3:34.19 set by West Coast in 2012, with that former foursome having included Ryan Steenkamp, Mark Ferguson, Lennard Bremer and Tommason D’Orsogna.
Additional standouts include Kwinana’s Brielle Dredge, who picked up the women’s 100m breast (1:07.91) and 200m IM (2:18.78) titles.
Dredge also made noise on the final day, reaping the top spot in the 200m breast in 2:26.37 and the 50m breast in 31.04.
Yong did damage as well, coming within just .12 of his own record in the men’s 100m breaststroke, winning the race in 57.58. He also topped the men’s 200m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke podiums in respective efforts of 2:08.74 and 26.61. The latter race saw him break his own WA All-Comers and Residential Record of 26.82 he set two years ago
