For starters, the Cubs’ nine home runs during the game are the most the team has ever hit in a single game in their entire history, according to Baseball Reference’s Stathead tool.
What’s more, it’s only the fifth time in MLB history a team has hit nine or more home runs in a single game, with the Toronto Blue Jays setting the MLB record with 10 long balls in a single game in 1987.
During the month of August, the Cubs slugged a staggering 62 home runs, which was not only a team record for home runs in a single month but also a National League record, trailing only the New York Yankees, who hammered 74 in a single month in 2019.
Alex Bregman clubbed three of those home runs on Monday night, and in doing so he made a few unique bits of history. According to Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune, Bregman and Pete Crow-Armstrong are the first pair of Cubs teammates to both hit 12 home runs within a calendar month, and they are the first pair of teammates to achieve the feat in more than 25 years.
Finally, Bregman is the first Cubs player to have two or more three-home run games in a single month since Aramis Ramirez achieved the feat in 2004.
The Cubs will continue their series on Tuesday night when they face the Brewers at Wrigley Field, with first pitch set for 6:40 p.m.
