Mrs. Linda Anderon Claywell age 73 of the Defeated Creek Community, went to be with her Lord on Friday evening August 28, 2026 at 7:05 p.m. surrounded by family who will miss her beyond measure. The family had been assisted with her care in her final days by the staff at the Knollwood Health Care in Lafayette where she had resided since August 18th.
Eld. Shawn Shephered, assisted by her pastor, Eld. Daniel Cook, will officiate at the 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon September 1st funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow, with Eld. Jimmy Langford officiating, in the Anderson section at the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens beside her first husband and the father of her children, Gerald Stanley Anderson, who died of brain cancer at the age of 45 on October 9, 1998.
The family will receive friends and family at Sanderson in Carthage on Monday August 31st from 12 noon until 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday September 1st after 10 a.m.
Mrs. Claywell was born Linda Jean Swann at the former McFarland Hospital in Lebanon on April 24, 1953 and was one of four children, two daughters and two sons of the late Edward Allen Swann who died October 18, 2000 at the age of 73 and Movaline Shepherd Swann who died April 16, 2022 at the age of 92.
She was also preceded in death by her best friend and sister, Peggy Ann Swann Harpe, who preceded her in death on September 10, 2021 at the age of 71, and Peggy’s husband Wayne Harpe who died August 10, 2017 at the age of 67 and Gerald’s father, Ralph Anderson who died January 15, 2016 at the age of 92.
A May 1971 graduate of Smith County High School, on October 15, 1971 she and Defeated Creek Community native Gerald Anderson were united in marriage. They built a wonderful life together farming and raising cattle in the Defeated Creek Community, and where they reared two wonderful children, Tiffany and Lance.
Linda was blessed with a wonderful second husband, Philip Gary (Pee Wee) Claywell to whom she was wed on April 20, 2002.
They built a wonderful life together with a beautiful blended family. Linda and Phil enjoyed traveling, especially the camping trips with their eight grandchildren. Their marriage consisted of twenty-four happy years together before Phil’s passing at the age of 80 on March 10, 2026.
Although Linda lost two husbands to death, she felt so fortunate to have had the opportunity to have had two exceptional marriages to two kind and respectful gentlemen who were totally committed to family life.
Linda was saved at the age of 15 in 1968 and left behind a heartfelt testimony of salvation. She was baptized into the full fellowship of the Cornwells Chapel Missionary Baptist Church that same year and remained a faithful member until her death.
Above all, Linda treasured the Lord, her church family at Cornwell’s Chapel, and her earthly family, especially her eight grandchildren.
She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed baking their many birthday cakes and enjoyed watching them making gingerbread houses at Christmas.
Furthermore, Linda enjoyed shopping, camping, sewing, traveling and cooking Sunday dinner for her family.
Surviving are her two children, Tiffany Anderson Angel and husband Stacy of Carthage, Lance Anderson and wife Holly Shoulders Anderson of the Tanglewood Community; Phil’s two sons, Kevin Claywell and wife Stacey Keen Claywell of the Defeated Creek Community, Kenny Claywell and wife Tanya Smith Claywell of Chestnut Mound eight grandchildren, Hailey Angel of Lafayette and fiancée Christopher Brown, Hannah Anderson also of the Tanglewood Community and fiancée Nate Martinez , Gracey Angel of Carthage and fiancée Evin Graber, Bella Anderson also of Tanglewood, Becky Langford and husband Eld. Jimmy Langford, Gary Claywell, Jacob Claywell, and Presley Claywell; two brothers, Paul Swann and wife Sherry Agee Swann of the McCoinsville Community; Bobby Swann of the Cartwright Community; sister-in-law, Carolyn Anderson Mahaney and husband Gary of Carthage; mother-in-law, Ruth Kemp Anderson of Carthage.
Linda will always be remembered for her kind heart, zeal for life, love for her church family and earthly family. Her memory will forever live in the hearts of all who loved and knew her.
The Anderson-Claywell family has requested memorials be made in her memory to her beloved Cornwell’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
