A 16-year-old boy died after falling approximately 100 feet from an abandoned rock quarry structure in Joliet early Sunday, authorities said.

Joliet police said at around 12:58 a.m., officers were called to Louise Ray Parkway near Collins Street after receiving a report that someone had fallen from a nearby building.

Officers arrived, located the teenage boy and began providing medical aid until Joliet Fire Department crews arrived.

The teen, who hasn’t been identified, was later pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County Coroner’s Office. An investigation was underway to determine the manner and cause of death.

Four other juvenile boys were with the teen at the time of the incident, police said.

Authorities determined the juveniles entered the property to explore the structure and went to an upper portion of the building, where the teen fell approximately 100 feet.

The four juveniles were taken to the Joliet Police Department, where they were interviewed and released to their parents.
