Each week, throughout the college football season, alumni, fans, media and the teams themselves look to the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll to see who is rising and moving within the national rankings. The new poll follows Week 0 games.
William & Mary’s upset of Villanova this past Friday night extended all the way into Monday as far as indicating the depth of Patriot League football.
The bolstered PL has three teams in the new Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll – Lehigh at No. 10, William & Mary 17 and Villanova 18 – which hasn’t happened since the 2009 season-ending national media poll. Additionally, Richmond is receiving Top 25 votes.
The PL has increased from seven to 10 member programs in the last two years and moved to a nine-game league schedule. As part of its full league schedule in Week 0, Wiliam & Mary scored 13 points in the final 53 seconds to upset then-No. 8 Villanova 35-32, Lehigh handled Holy Cross 35-10, and Richmond beat Bucknell 35-14.
Defending FCS champion Montana State remains a unanimous No. 1 following a 54-0 thrashing of Utah Tech. South Dakota State jumps Montana into the No. 2 spot, while FCS newcomer West Florida also is a newcomer to the rankings at No. 25.
The Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll is released each Monday during the regular season and one day after the FCS championship game (scheduled for Jan. 11 in Nashville, Tennessee). A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
