“We were backstage and the crowd was going and our encore was ‘Take It to the Limit’. Randy didn’t want to do the song that night,” said Henley, as reported by Far Out.
Henley stated that Meisner “had been partying all night,” making it difficult for him to provide the vocals for “Take It to the Limit.”
“Glenn [Frey] kept saying ‘You’ve got to do it’ and he kept saying no. And by the third or fourth time Randy refused, Glenn just took a few steps back and said, ‘Well f–k you then,'” said Henley.
Following Meisner’s death, the Eagles’ official website paid tribute to the bassist, which included a statement from the band that honored his memorable contribution to “Take It to the Limit.”
“Randy was an integral part of the Eagles and instrumental in the early success of the band. His vocal range was astonishing, as is evident on his signature ballad, ‘Take It to the Limit,’” read the Eagles statement, published on their website on July 23, 2023.
