34-6 was the final score of the Broncos’ final preseason game on Friday as the offense put up 412 yards of offense and the defense put the clamps on Minnesota’s offense on third down, holding them to 3-of-13 on the evening.
Jarrett Stidham got the start for the Broncos after it was announced during the week that Bo Nix wouldn’t play in tonight’s game. Stidham saw two series that led to him finishing the game 6-of-9 passing for 78 yards, with the offense generating 10 points in those two possessions.

Sam Ehlinger stepped in and got the rest of the snaps for three and a half quarters. Ehlinger shook off an early interception and proceeded to throw three touchdowns, including an 88-yard pass to rookie tight end Justin Joly.
The rotation played out very similarly to what we saw in 2024 when Zach Wilson was the other quarterback on the roster, which ultimately led to them keeping three on the active roster.
After the game, Broncos head coach Sean Payton said, “We’ll see” when it comes to that possibility as Payton, GM George Paton, and the staff go through and begin to evaluate trimming their roster from 90 players to 53.
Broncos players who made a strong case for themselves
It was the Cody Schrader game on Friday. Schrader was a pickup for the Broncos down the stretch of last season, where he saw some time on the active roster and the practice squad. He’s had a strong preseason, showcasing the ability to be a playmaker and rattle off consistent runs inside and on the outside.
Friday’s game was his breakout moment. He hauled in a touchdown pass from Sam Ehlinger, which accounted for one of his six catches on the evening for 90 yards. Schrader also had 13 carries for 42 yards and finished the game with over 100 all-purpose yards.
Tonight’s game was all about making it hard for the coaches to ignore leaving a player off the 53.
“So we talk about that all the time, there are a number of guys that it’s not as important for, but there are a number that it’s the most important thing, period,” Payton said. “I don’t watch a lot of TV, but my wife likes watching that Voice where the singers sing. So today it was like, ‘Hey, make us spin the chair.’ Make us spin it.”
Schrader’s performance was Voice-worthy.
Undrafted rookie free agent wide receiver and kick returner Kolbe Katsis has stacked three straight games where he’s broken off a big return. On Friday, he sprung free up the sideline for a 49-yard kick return that gave the Broncos offense great field position. This came after Marvin Mims left the game with a foot injury, and Katsis showcased to Darren Rizzi that he could handle punt and kick return duties responsibly.
Payton gave an update on Mims, saying that he just has a bruise and that he’ll be okay.
Now, the Broncos must get to work on trimming their roster from 90 players to 53 by 4:00 p.m. MT on Sunday.
