News by : (Parade) -

Happy birthday, Luis Guzmán!

The actor, born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, on August 28, 1956, is turning 70 years old today! His over four-decade-long career includes appearances in many hit TV shows and movies, such as Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), Punch-Drunk Love (2002), Out of Sight (1998), and Traffic (2000).

Guzmán grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. His mother was a hospital worker, and his stepfather was a TV repairman. After graduating from the City College of New York, he worked as a social worker and was an actor on the side. He later became frustrated with his full-time job and decided to switch to acting.

He married his wife, Angelita Galarza, in 1985. They have four children together.

The actor stars in the new film Coyote vs. Acme, which spent three years locked away after Warner Bros. decided to use the film as a $30 million tax write-off.

After fans voiced strong disappointment, the studio decided to sell it. Ketchup Entertainment bought the movie in 2025 for a reported $50 million. Guzmán told LatinaMediaCo how excited he is for the film to be released.

“I’m glad that it’s going to its proper place to be seen in theaters,” Guzmán said. “I want to thank the public because they were the champions of this film, along with the directors and our actors. It’s a bit of a generational piece because these Looney Tunes characters have been around 50, 60, years. And in 2026, to see a film that incorporates them, I think it’s beautiful. I think it’s great.”

With more than 175 acting credits to his name, the actor said he is especially proud of using his platform to represent the Latino community.

“I’m most proud of being able to represent my community. I’m able to be a voice for our community. I’m proud to be Latino, and I encourage every single one of us to keep creating. We will find a way,” he said.  “We haven’t knocked down all the walls, but we have knocked down some walls.”

Coyote vs. Acme stars Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor. It hits the big screen August 28.
