Dancing with the Stars staple Julianne Hough is remembering the late Dolly Parton after she had not one, but two working experiences with the country music legend.
Hough, who starred alongside Parton in the singer’s Netflix series, Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings in 2019, shared a sweet moment between the two while chatting with brother Derek Hough in an interview for Extra TV, which he hosts.
“I’ll never forget it,” she said. “We were talking between scenes, and she was like, ‘You know what? You remind me myself, and you always want to do all these different things…But just remember, always stay the artist that you are,’ and that hit me so hard because I feel like…I love business, and I love this, and I love that. But really, my true nature is an artist.”
Julianne also shared an unforgettable moment when at the Netflix premiere she forgot her earrings and Parton lent her a pair to ultimately keep. Later in their chat, she also recalled the fact that she “got to sing ‘Baby Blues’ on stage,’ with Parton during the show.
“I got to sing with Dolly, like, are you kidding me?” she said.

“I feel like I’ll always have that like piece and that memory of Dolly with me, she added. “But I think the biggest thing that I’m feeling, and I feel overwhelmed with it, is just how beloved she was by every single person and walk of life.”
The siblings also recalled the time, a few years earlier, where Parton performed ‘9 to 5’ on Dancing with the Stars in 2015 during Season 20. The Houghs along with Mark Ballas and Cheryl Burke danced along to Parton singing live.
“Those were those early days when we were just like blown away by the guests that would come on,” she recalled. “And to have Dolly Parton on Dancing with the Stars, singing the iconic ‘9 to 5’, and I mean, sometimes I forget about all those experiences that we’ve had, and for Dancing with the Stars to be such a home where we’ve had so many incredible interactions, it’s been a real blessing.”
Former pro Burke also shared a clip of the dancers during Parton’s performance following the news of her death on Instagram.

Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced her death on Tuesday in a social media video posted on her account. It was later confirmed that she had a brief battle with cancer.
“It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly,” he said, in part. “Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”
Parton’s funeral service, at her request, will be a small and private ceremony.
