A young man from Illinois is in critical condition after falling from a rooftop bar in Missouri over the weekend, authorities said.
Columbia police told NBC Chicago they were called just after 9 p.m. Sunday to Harpo’s Bar and Grill for a report of an individual who had fallen from the bar.
Police said the man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition.
A woman who identified herself as the mother of the young man identified him as Corbin Rodenberg, a former Mizzou student from Chillicothe, Illinois.
“Corbin was hurt at Harpos tonight. He is in critical condition. He has multiple skull fractures, is on a ventilator, various other broken bones and has not regained consciousness. He is currently having a brain procedure to hopefully help and get some answers,” Kaley Rodenberg wrote early Monday morning. “It’s a waiting game right now. Parents hug your babies tight and everyone please send up some thoughts and prayers for my baby and those working on him!”
The bar had been hosting what it called “Harpo’s Bid Day 2026” the night of the fall, though it was not clear if Rodenberg was attending the event. The bar did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment.
According to NBC affiliate station KOMU 8 News, Rodenberg, graduated from Chillicothe High School in 2023, where he played football, and was a student at the University of Missouri, but he was not enrolled in fall classes.
Chillicothe R-2 School District Superintendent Daniel Wiebers told the publication in a statement the the district’s “staff and school community are keeping Corbin and his family in our thoughts during this difficult time.”
A fundraiser set up for Rodenberg and his family said “his injuries are severe, and the prognosis is unknown at this time.”
Kayley Rodenberg said her son was “searching for his path in life” but wanted one where he could “help someone,” a goal she hopes he will be able to fulfill “after this hurdle and those hardships remaining to come.”
“There are setbacks and then there are a few small miraculous glimmers of positive signs that this momma will hold on to for dear life,” she wrote. “We are completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support for Corbin and our family. This is not a sprint but will be one of the hardest and longest marathons of our lives.”
On Thursday morning, Kayley Rodenberg said her son was being moved from a surgical ICU to a neuro ICU, where he remains in critical condition, “but fighting.”
