Pathways to Peace BBQ
Pathways to Peace, the city’s violence prevention team, is holding two final community cleanup and barbecue events, part of its month-long series.
Thursday’s event takes place around Genesee and Orleans streets on the city’s southwest side from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday’s final event takes place at Don Samuel Torres Park on 70 Oakman St. from 5 to 7 p.m. and, instead of a community cleanup, there will be a community softball game. Project TIPS community cookout
Camp Good Days is hosting a community cookout to build trust between community members and police. It’s happening at Jones Square Park on Saratoga Avenue from 1 to 5 p.m.
Project T.I.P.S. (Trust, Information, Programs, and Services) is part of an anti-violence program aiming to make Rochester safer. Thursday’s event includes games, raffles, and tables from local organizations. It also includes door-to-door community surveys on quality of life in Rochester.
Watching partial lunar eclipse at RIT
The Rochester Institute of Technology is inviting the community to watch the partial lunar eclipse at its observatory at 645 John Street on Thursday night.
A partial lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves between the sun and the moon, and the moon passes through only part of Earth’s dark inner shadow. The eclipse gets underway around 10:33 p.m. At its peak at 12:12 a.m., the Earth’s shadow will cover over 90% of the moon’s surface, giving the moon a red tint. McQuaid’s 25-hour relay
McQuaid Jesuit’s 25-hour relay to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House gets underway at 9 a.m. on Thursday. The annual relay at the school’s track won’t stop until Friday at 10 a.m.
Members of McQuaid’s cross country team will keep handing off the baton to each other. Community members are invited to join the relay, cheer on the runners, and donate. You can donate to the Ronald McDonald House here.
