ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The City of Rochester is hosting two free workshops in September for homeowners 65 or older to learn how they may qualify for property tax savings through the city’s Senior Citizen Tax Exemption and other tax relief programs.
At these workshops, homeowners will be able to get one-on-one assistance and ask questions about eligibility, and learn what documents are needed to apply for the programs. Staff will also explain the programs during the workshops and help people determine which benefits they may qualify for.
Senior Citizen Tax Exemption
To qualify for the city’s Senior Citizen Tax Exemption, applicants must meet the following:
Be at least 65 years old by Dec. 31, 2027. For a jointly owned property, at least one spouse or sibling owner must meet the age requirement. Own and occupy the property as their primary residence. Meet income eligibility requirements. Eligible homeowners must apply and renew their exemption annually.To learn more about the program and other tax relief programs, click here.
When and where are the workshops?
The first workshop will be on Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Rochester Community Sports Complex on Oaks Street. The second one will be on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the City Hall Atrium on Church Street.

People who plan to attend the workshops must bring the following documents:
Proof of age, such as a birth certificate, driver’s license, or passport. Proof of income, including 2025 federal income tax returns or year-end 1099 income statements. Proof of property ownership, if requested.More resources
