August 21st – September 3rd, 2026 Taranto, Italy LCM (50m) Meet Central Live ResultsThe penultimate night of swimming action transpired at the 2026 Mediterranean Games, with the nations of Italy, Greece and Portugal still situated atop the medal table.
Lisa Angiolini helped the Italian cause by grabbing gold in the women’s 50m breaststroke as a follow-up to her 200m breaststroke victory the previous evening.
31-year-old Angiolini stopped the clock at a speedy result of 30.64, representing the sole contestant among the field to clear the 31-second barrier.
Portugal’s national record holder Ana Rodrigues secured the silver in 31.01, while Angiolini’s teammate Irene Mati rounded out the podium in 31.34.
Angiolini’s performance checked in as the 9th-best outing of her career, one which boasts a lifetime best of 30.34 from this year’s Sette Colli Trophy. At the European Championships which just concluded earlier this month, the veteran delivered a time of 30.61 out of the heats; however, two Italians were faster and Angiolini was shut out of the next rounds due to the two-per-country rule.
The women’s 400m IM final saw just 5 swimmers dive in to vie for hardware, although one of the competitors, Belis Sakar of Turkey, was rendered disqualified in the race.
That left Italy’s Giada Alzetta to grab the gold, hitting the sole Championship Record of the evening in the process.
Alzetta, who is competing in her first series of senior international meets this year, produced a winning effort of 4:39.05 to not only set the meet mark but also establish a new lifetime best.
Entering this competition, Alzetta’s PB rested at the 4:39.83 notched in Paris to place 6th in the women’s 400m IM final. Her outing here now inserts her into slot #7 among the all-time Italian women performers.
Countrywoman Anna Pirovano turned in a time of 4:47.62 to snag the silver, as Spain’s Paula Gonzalez bagged the bronze in 4:48.68.
27-year-old Alberto Razzetti also dominated the men’s edition of the 400m IM, putting a time of 4:11.99 on the board to beat the pack by over six seconds.
The next-closest racer was represented by Daniil Giortzidis of Greece who touched in 4:18.28, followed by Italian Emanuele Potenza‘s effort of 4:19.03.
Razzetti earned silver in this men’s 400m IM event at the European Championships, with his time of 4:10.40 there in Paris registering runner-up status behind winner, Neutral Athlete Ilya Borodin of Russia’s time of 4:08.17.

The women’s 800m free saw Noemi Cesarano get to the wall first, with the 23-year-old producing a result of 8:29.65 for a new personal best. Her gold medal-worthy time overtook the former PB of 8:33.12 she put up for silver at the 2023 World University Games. Greek swimmer Artemis Vasilaki earned the silver in 8:30.02 and Portuguese athlete Francisca Soares Martins rounded out the podium in 8:30.33 in the tight race. Turkish Olympian and national record holder Emre Sakci got the job done in the men’s 50m breaststroke, delivering a time of 27.24 for the victory. That narrowly defeated Gabriele Mancini of Italy who turned in 27.26, as fellow Turk Nusrat Allahverdi placed 3rd in 27.39. Kalia Antoniou of Cypress was too speedy to catch in the women’s 100m freestyle where she posted an outing of 54.60 as the gold medalist. Italy’s Chiara Tarantino was just a hair behind in 54.67 for the silver, as Spain’s Ainho Campabadal touched in 55.40, good enough for the bronze. Just one man cleared the 49-second threshold in their edition of the 100m free. It was a 1-2 Croatian finish, with Toni Dragoja hitting 48.77 for gold and teammate Vili Sivec logging 49.19 for silver.
