Micky Dolenz was there too, and later told Parade he turned up at the afterparty to find John leaning on a refrigerator wearing the identical Warhol Marilyn T-shirt.
He Opened Alone at the Piano
John started solo with “Your Song,” then brought on Nigel Olsson on drums and Dee Murray on bass for a set that ran through “Sixty Years On,” “Border Song,” “Take Me to the Pilot” and “Burn Down the Mission.” He played the club’s house piano, the same one Laura Nyro had sat at two weeks earlier. Rolling Stone later put the run on its list of the 50 greatest concerts of the last 50 years.
