Rochester City Council meeting
Rochester City Council is holding its monthly meeting on Tuesday to vote on proposed legislation. It starts at 6 p.m. at Rochester City Hall.
One item on the agenda is establishing the New American Advisory Council. It’s tasked with connecting resources and agency locations to the communities in which new Americans reside. City council is also considering issuing $625,000 in bonds for projects at Parcel 5, including improvements to electrical infrastructure, security cameras, WiFi, and ground hydrants for lawn irrigation. Giveaway of donations for Big Give
Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies at News10NBC’s Big Give at ESL Ballpark on Friday. So, what will happen with your donations? The Boys and Girls Club of Rochester will give out backpacks full of supplies on Tuesday afternoon. After that, we’ll get the final tally of how many students your donations supported.
People donated at least two vans full of backpacks, paper, pens, pencils, glue sticks, crayons, and other supplies ahead of the new school year. This comes as research groups warn about the rising costs of back-to-school, with families estimated to spend $864 on supplies and clothes. You can see photos from the Big Give here.
NY State Fair butter sculpture reveal
We’ll finally get a glimpse of the 58th annual butter sculpture at the Great New York State Fair on Tuesday. The American Dairy Association North East will unveil the sculpture, made of 800 pounds of butter, the day before the fair begins.
Last year’s butter sculpture was “Wizard of Oz” themed, paying tribute to the 125th anniversary of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and its author, L. Frank Baum, of Chittenango.
