Tenants at Pinnacle Apartments say a trash backup has been making them physically sick for a week ...Middle East

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Problems continue at Pinnacle Apartments, where tenants say a trash backup caused trouble for a week.

News10NBC reported a few weeks ago on elevators not working in the building, which is supposed to be for people who are elderly or disabled. News10NBC’s Tom Kowalski spoke with tenants who say they dealt with trash chute backups for days.

“It’s been horrible. You know, you throw the trash in the garbage chute, and it just reeks terrible. You can smell it in my apartment,” Barbara Armstrong said.

Armstrong has lived at Pinnacle Apartments for almost four years but has never smelled anything like this. She described the smell as dead animals and said it makes her sick to go near the garbage chute.

“Physically sick, like you’re going to throw up?” Kowalski asked.

“Yes,” Armstrong said.

Pathstone Corporation, Pinnacle Apartment’s owner, told Kowalski the chute went down on Friday because the garbage company, Waste Management, took a part off site for repair. But tenant Sybil Stringling said she never heard that from management.

“Usually they give you notices on that. We didn’t even get a notice that it was even broke down until we see all this trash all backed up,” Stringling said. “I can still smell the stench from in there.”

Pathstone said it hired ServPro to clean up other garbage rooms, starting on the top 18th floor and making their way down. So far, they are down to floor 13.

“Oh, so much better. Yes, much difference,” Stringling said, when she inspected the trash room on the 18th floor.

Pathstone said Waste Management is still waiting on a part for a trash compactor, but the chutes are working with staff manually removing the garbage. Pathstone has begun cleaning up at least some of the chutes.

Pathstone adds Waste Management is still working on repairs for the trash compactor with no date set for a final repair.
