Becky G is done playing coy.
In a new interview with Playboy published Thursday (Aug. 20), the Mexican-American pop star opens up about the sensual, unapologetically adult era behind her fifth studio album, Baraja Bendita. The project, she says, is not only her sexiest yet — it is the sound of an artist finally refusing to separate her public persona from her private self.
“Why is it that she’s a lady in the streets and a freak in the sheets, but God forbid she talk about it, you know?” Becky G told Playboy. “Now, I’m not just talking about women in general. This is me as a woman. This is what I’m experiencing.”

That frankness (and freakiness) marks a bigger shift for the 29-year-old singer, who grew up in the public eye after breaking through with “Shower” at 17. She describes the album as a release after the emotional excavation of her previous two projects, Esquinas (2023) and Encuentros (2024). This time, she wanted music that felt less like healing and more like going out: house, Latin rhythms, disruptive production and a return to the rap instincts she says the industry once deemed difficult to package.
The album’s club energy is also a thank you to the LGBTQ+ community, which Becky G calls central to the spirit of dance and soul music. “I really wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for the LGBTQ+ community,” she added. “I think nothing would be where it is today without them. They’re at the core and the spirit of dance music and soul music. I feel they definitely inspired a lot of the sounds I explored and they are a huge source of inspiration for this album.”
In April, Becky G was featured in Billboard Español’s 2026 Latin Women in Music cover story and recognized with the event’s Global Impact Award.
