GOLETA, Calif. (KEYT) - Dos Pueblos just missed the CIF-Southern Section football playoffs last year.
It would be a surprise to see the 2026 Chargers out of the postseason.
"We're getting a lot of high character kids that want to play well and do well for their school and do well with their friends," stated Chargers head coach AJ Pateras.
A double-overtime loss to rival San Marcos on the last day of the regular season kept DP out of the playoffs in 2025 and that serves as motivation for the returning players.
"The senior class has really learned and benefitted from some of these really close games that we have played," said Pateras.
As a school Dos Pueblos has a high enrollment and the Chargers football team has a good-sized roster of players.
"We got a lot of depth, we have had plenty of competitive practices throughout the summer," noted Pateras.
The Chargers have good senior leadership on defense with guys like Marcus Carbajal, Wyatt Mitchell, Max Hernandez and Patrick Sullivan who said, "We are all really good tacklers."
On offense junior Grady Felix is the clear #1 quarterback after sharing the role last season. The 6'2, 200 pound Felix is a standout athlete that has been learning all of the nuances of playing the most important position on the field.
"Last year I used my feat a lot but this year I am trying to develop more as a pocket passer," said Felix.

Coach Pateras added, "I think it's just learning to be comfortable right, understanding protections is a big part of that."
A benefit to all of the schools in the Tri-County League is that Agoura was moved up to a new league called the Coastal 101. "We know that being in this league (Tri-County) we have a chance to go to the playoffs every year and we have confidence that we can play any team in this league," said Pateras.
DP begins the season this Friday at Santa Ynez at 7 p.m.
