ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two 19 year old’s and a 20-year-old are facing charges after Rochester Police say they recovered a pistol and four handguns.
Police say at around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to Joseph Avenue for a ShotSpotter activation. During the investigation, officers say they stepped out with a group of men gathered around a car on Hudson Avenue.
While talking to the group, police say the front seat passenger, 19-year-old Antonio O’Neal, had what seemed to be a rifle between his legs.
O’Neal and the other people in the car were then detained. According to police, an AR style pistol was recovered from the car. Police say during that, the rear passenger, 19-year old Jaylen Melton, was found with a loaded handgun and extended magazine in his waistband.
Additionally, police say they found a third handgun on the floor of the car.
Detectives later responded to the scene and started a search warrant, which included the nearby corner store. Police say a fourth gun was recovered from the car, and a fifth gun was recovered from inside of the store.
In total, the following firearms were recovered:
MOE AR style pistol with a defaced serial number, loaded with 30 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition. Glock handgun, loaded with 13 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition. Glock handgun, loaded with 31 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Glock handgun, loaded with 25 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition. Glock handgun, loaded with 14 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition.As a result, the following people were charged:
Mekhi Ragland, 20
Two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degrees.Jayden Melton
Two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.Antonio O’Neal
Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.All three were brought to the Monroe County Jail and arraigned Wednesday. They were all released on non-monetary conditions.
Police say the investigation is still open.
