Nottingham Forest’s six-transfer wish list – and the most important deal of all ...Middle East

News by : (inews) -

Nottingham Forest face paying premium prices in the final fortnight of the transfer window.

The club received £116m for Elliot Anderson last month and the most they have spent is £34.3m on Ivory Coast defender Ousmane Diomande from Sporting.

Forest are set to begin their Premier League campaign at home to Leeds United on Saturday with multiple positions that still need strengthening.

There is certainly the budget to make additions, and while head coach Oliver Glasner hopes for at least three more transfers, he has conceded their timing will make signings “more expensive”.

In Glasner, who was appointed in early July, there is cause for optimism despite the quiet window so far. Joining off the back of a trophy-laden spell at Crystal Palace, Forest have fallen upwards in landing the Austrian after a balmy season featuring four permanent managers.

The Brazilian love affair continues?

Glasner was crucial in convincing Diomande to join and he could yet have a say on Forest’s need for a right wing-back.

Daniel Munoz has been linked with a move away from Palace and the Glasner connection could convince the Colombian to join Forest – although Everton are also interested amid reports of a £18-25m asking price.

The arrival of Fiorentina right wing-back Dodo appears more likely with the 27-year-old Brazilian a client of Bertolucci Sports.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has worked closely with Giuliano Bertolucci in recent years, with the latter’s Brazilian-based agency boasting Omari Hutchinson, Jair Cunha and Morato in their stable, as well as Danilo and Douglas Luiz.

Dodo would be the 12th Brazilian player to join Forest since 2023, and the sixth in their current squad.

A decision to make on Liam Delap

Twelve months on from making the leap to Chelsea from Ipswich Town, striker Liam Delap is expected to leave Stamford Bridge after a difficult first campaign saw the 23-year-old score two goals in 41 games.

Delap struggled for minutes with Joao Pedro for competition, and subsequently any notion he is Harry Kane’s England successor has quickly evaporated.

The biggest stumbling block is therefore Chelsea’s £50m asking price for a player they paid £30m for last summer. A £10m-per-goal profit is wishful thinking, but if they climb down it would be more viable.

With the modern game starved of quality No 9s, Forest will have to ask themselves how much they are willing to gamble on Delap.

The i Paper reported last month that Forest are among three serious suitors along with Leeds United and Everton.

The reality for all three clubs is that, beyond Delap, other striker alternatives are less obvious and would require a roll of the dice from the continent akin to Fulham bringing in Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid and Ipswich Town signing Emersonn from Toulouse.

Operation keep Gibbs-White

In midfield, few are expecting Xaver Schlager to fill Anderson’s shoes after the 28-year-old Austrian joined on a free transfer, meaning Forest may yet search for reinforcement. Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Barcelona’s Marc Casado, both 22, have been linked with Forest recently.

Forest’s most crucial bit of business in this final fortnight though would be ensuring they hold onto Morgan Gibbs-White, whose options are admittedly dwindling.

Tottenham almost signed Gibbs-White last year but James Maddison’s return from injury puts another attempt to sign the former in doubt. Spurs have also switched their focus to forwards after signing Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes in midfield for a combined £185m.

Gibbs-White signed a three-year contract in the summer of 2025, meaning he will have one year left next summer, when Forest are more likely to cash in – though the upcoming campaign will almost certainly dictate whether he leaves and how much for.

Elsewhere, Forest may yet see value in the loan market. Arsenal are willing to let winger Ethan Nwaneri go out on loan this season, and there would be no harm in Forest expressing their interest amid reports Fulham are among those considering the 19-year-old. The Gunners are reportedly also willing to sell Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira.

Jesus would be a difficult get with Napoli also interested – but there is always that Brazilian cohort at Forest to help sway the forward.
