“The Democratic Caucus of the Monroe County Legislature is saddened and concerned that the 2023 death of Brian Harmon, an inmate in the Monroe County Jail, has been deemed by the NYS Commission of Correction as preventable had he been properly assessed and treated.
We have learned that the Commission’s December 2025 report directed the County Legislature, as the appointing authority for the delivery of health services to incarcerated individuals in the jail, to review its findings and conduct an inquiry into the fitness of the designated provider.
We take that charge with the utmost sense of responsibility. We are committed to working with the full Legislature to create a transparent and expedient process that will answer the questions the Legislature and the community have and be responsive to the Commission of Correction’s directive.”
