She credited increased usage of automated license plate readers and other technological tools as “undoubtedly a contributing factor to the decrease.”
“When you get car thieves off the streets and hold them accountable, that can have an impact on other crimes that are committed in our communities,” she said. “Often the stolen vehicle is a means to help them commit other crimes without it being traced back to them.”
