Acwa Power, a Saudi utility in consortium with US group Air Products has completed construction work on the mega green hydrogen project at Oxagon located within Saudi Arabia’s mega futuristic city NEOM, and commercial operations are set to begin next year.
The US $8.5bn facility is now in the commissioning stage, stated Samir Serhan, CEO, Acwa recently while talking to analysts and investors during an earnings call.
The consortium, NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC), is a joint venture between Acwa Power, Air Products and NEOM, the developer of Saudi Arabia’s mega futuristic city.
When fully operational, this green hydrogen plant will be the largest producing up to 600t of carbon-free hydrogen. This hydrogen will be converted into green ammonia and exported globally, offering a practical blueprint for green hydrogen at scale, as per NGHC.
NGHC announced that its renewable power generation assets, including the wind farm, solar farm, and transmission grid, had reached 95% completion.
