ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills roster is mostly set, but there’s at least one position battle still looms: punter.
BIG TIME: TOMMY DOMAN AND MITCH WISHNOWSKY ARE PING PONG PARTNERS!
I don't say this lightly…#Bills rookie Tommy Doman's a chiller.

Rookie Tommy Doman is preparing for his NFL preseason debut Saturday, competing with veteran Mitch Wishnowsky for the starting job.
“Fired up man. I mean, the like the red and blue game was kind of just like a taste of it, you know? And like our fan base is awesome. So it was basically full, you know, so it was like it felt like a real game,” Doman said.
Saturday isn’t just a practice–it’ll be a real game with real competition.
“I think anytime we can have competition, that’s what you want,” head coach Joe Brady said. “And so you got you got a vet and a rook. As a play caller, I hope they don’t have too many opportunities.”
Before this, Doman was a national champion at Michigan before transferring to Florida. Now he’s fighting for an NFL roster spot, but the competition hasn’t hurt his relationship with Wishnowsky.
“In our break time, we’ll have camaraderie, so we’ll play ping pong, play two v. two. Mitch and are on the same team,” Doman said.
At this rate, the two are closer to friends than competitors battling for the same job.
“Sometimes being a fly on the wall, like you’re the rookie. You’re not really speaking the whole time, you know? But it’s still a great time. I just kind of get to know them,” Doman said.
Despite being a rookie, Doman said he’s not letting the moment overwhelm him, in part because of the confidence that special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers has instilled in him.
“As a rookie, you’re fighting for a job every single day. You kind of see [Rodgers] just being calm, cool, collected, and it’s like I can do that too,” Doman said.
So there’s a lot to being a punter. Holding?
“It’s just been reps reps, reps. And you kind of build that chemistry and you just don’t think twice,” Doman said.
Punting?
“Same factors that go into success rates in college, going into success rates, the NFL efficiency, getting the ball off, hang time, directional, placement,” Rodgers said.
Doman has the composure and the mindset. Now it’s about proving himself in an NFL uniform for the first time.
“I’m really doing it, you know? So just so happy. Like every single day I just try to fit in where I can and just kind of help the team move forward,” Doman said.
