HONEOYE, N.Y. — People in the Honeoye community spent their Saturday building a new playground for Honeoye Central School.
News10NBC’s Declan Stablow was at the school on Main Street in Honeoye, where organizers said after five days, the site was just some holes in the ground. But every day since then, dozens of volunteers have come out to set up the playground.
The Honeoye Central School District said this new playground will be safer. Gary Hubble, one of the crew chiefs for the project, said the old playground was more than 30 years old and was starting to splinter.
Even though construction began Tuesday, Hubble said the planning started years ago. He thinks it will be a special feeling for the people who worked on it to see it once it’s completed.
“It took a lot of coordination on everybody’s part. Actually, we started last Thursday by setting shelves up for the tool crib and then we were here Monday setting up the benches saw tables. Lots of great coordination on the communities part a lot of great community help,” Hubble said.
The last day of work for the volunteer crews will be Sunday. Then a general contractor will come in to finish up. Hubble said it will be ready for the school year.
According to the Honeoye district website, the playground is being funded by a capital improvement project voted on in 2024.
