ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Monroe football has been dominating Class B for a while, but in 2026, they’ll have some more competition, as East reclassifies down.
“You wake up and you get a call and say hey you’re in Class B, so what do you do? You show up and play,” said East football head coach James Vann.
Vann might not express any more excitement about playing Monroe in their class than any other team in Section V. But the Eagles players definitely see it as a rivalry and a team they can’t wait to play come week 3 on their schedule.
“We won’t really see the less competition until we go to playoffs, because we play all over the classes during the regular season,” said East senior Jamie Anderson. “But we can’t wait to play Monroe.”
And Anderson? He might have been watching some Joe Namath documentaries the way he was already predicting a big time East win in a month.
“Utter dominance. I say we win the game with not much trouble,” said Anderson.
Monroe? They don’t agree in the slightest.
“I don’t really see a threat if I’m being truthful with you,” said senior lineman Alijah Jones. “Every team gets the same respect, but I don’t really see a threat in that and I’m gonna do what I gotta do regardless.
Coach Vann? Not even fazed about the game in the slightest.
“Our week one opponent is Wilson. That’s what we’re focusing on,” said Vann.
Needless to say, the coaches of East and Monroe might need to buckle down because the players on both sides know what’s coming. The first meeting? Sept. 18 at East.
