Prue Leith is reassuring fans that she’s doing just fine after revealing a frightening health scare landed her in the hospital.
The former Great British Baking Show judge, 86, shared an update on her Instagram Story on Friday, August 14, smiling at the camera while enjoying something to eat.
“For those that have messaged me, I wrote a piece of @theoldmagazine about my trip to the hospital a couple of months ago,” she wrote on top of the image. “I was fine shortly after and am very much alive and kicking now!”
The update comes after Leith detailed the incident in the September issue of The Oldie, explaining that what turned out to be a migraine initially raised concerns that she could be experiencing a stroke.

But this episode became more alarming when her speech deteriorated into what she described as an “incomprehensible jumble of disconnected words.”

Her husband, John Playfair, became concerned and contacted their doctor. Although Leith could raise her arms, make a fist and wasn’t experiencing facial drooping or pain, the doctor advised them to call an ambulance. “I tried to tell him it was just a migraine, but I couldn’t string two words together,” Leith recalled.
She was taken by ambulance to Harrogate Hospital, where medical staff repeatedly evaluated her for signs of a stroke. Once Leith’s speech returned to normal, she told doctors she believed she had experienced a migraine, but they opted to perform a CT scan to be safe.
After roughly 10 hours in the emergency department, Leith was released around 2 a.m. The TV personality explained that speech problems have accompanied her migraines since childhood. She said she had her first attack when she was just 9 years old. Now, months removed from the ordeal, Leith appears to be feeling much better.
