I look at the world, and I see what’s going on. I could not possibly have experienced all the things that I’ve written about but it’s easy to see what goes on in a woman’s life because, you know, I have a woman, and I’m around women all the time and I grew up in a house with my Mom and two sisters and I have a bunch of nieces, so it’s easy to see a girl’s point of view. Mary Wells was my personal project at Motown.”

To this day, fans still love “You Beat Me to the Punch.” As one YouTube comment said, “It’s utterly ridiculous how this woman is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet.
