GREECE, N.Y. — Braddock Bay Park will be renamed “Donald J. Riley Park” to honor Donald J. Riley, who was the former Greece town supervisor from 1973 to 1989.
The dedication ceremony is set for Thursday, Sept. 17, at 11:30 a.m. in Lodge One of Braddock Bay Park.
During his time as town supervisor, Riley oversaw Greece’s takeover of Braddock Bay Park and Marina. He’s also known for overseeing the completion of Route 390 to the Lake Ontario Parkway, buying the land area that is now the town’s administrative campus, expanding the Greece police force, and installing a Lake Ontario flood control system that aimed to protect the lake’s waterfront, among other achievements.
“Don Riley led the Town of Greece with vision and humility, and decades later, residents are still benefiting from the decisions he made,” said Greece Town Supervisor Jeff McCann. “I’ve had the privilege of knowing Don personally for years, and what strikes me most isn’t the list of accomplishments, though remarkable, it’s how much he genuinely cares about Greece. Naming this park after him is a small way of saying thank you for a lifetime of service to Greece. I couldn’t be happier to see his name permanently tied to a place he made possible for our community to enjoy.”
The community is invited to attend the ceremony.
