While Netflix will keep Seinfeld on its platform — globally! — it will not be exclusive. Sony Pictures Television can create other non-exclusive agreements around the world.

Why Spend So Much on a Non-Orignal?
It’s cheaper for Netflix to license content rather than make its own, so it makes sense financially to put more money into a successful show. Seinfeld remains one of the biggest draws for Netflix users, with 1.86 billion viewed minutes between 2023 and 2026 alone. That is far more than many of the original content the streamer develops.
This isn’t the first time Netflix has pushed to keep popular third-party content. At one point, it spent $1 million to keep Friends, and as mentioned, it’s just spent $500 million for the entire Walking Dead universe. It’s likely that it tried to keep Gilmore Girls, but that there was a better deal for Warner Bros. to take from Amazon.
