Special Screens Kept Fiesta Confetti and Plastic From Storm Drains ...Middle East

News by : (News channel) -

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - The festive confetti that hit the ground during Old Spanish Days was diverted from the ocean in many areas.

On the storm drains throughout downtown Santa Barbara and the waterfront where the cascarones eggs were primarily sold, black tarps were secured with tape.

This helped with the daily clean up and prevented the mounds of confetti from making it through the system and into the nearshore waters.

The city worked with the non-profit Heal the Ocean on the project which became a part of the planning process that first began a few years ago.

There was also an effort to reduce any used of the plastic mylar forms of confetti which is the most harmful to marine life.
